2005 Meetings

December 2005:

Henderson regular meeting (December 5th). 1st Annual Holiday Potluck and Celebration. Please bring a dish to share with others, and members are encouraged to bring digital photos that we will run in the background during our meeting. We will also discuss our field trip schedule, so please bring your suggestions, your appetite and your good cheer!
Reno (December 14th). 2nd annual Christmas Potluck in conjunction with Death Valley Picture Night. Dinner at 5:30 in the lab room just across the court yard from the Herbarium at 920 Valley Road. Bring a dish, bring yourself, and bring your spectacular pictures and testimonials of Death Valley, 2005. Power point is not available in this room but slides would work fine. Or present on a lap-top, an old-fashion CRT station or, even more old fashion (but still very acceptable)- prints! This is an informal presentation. NNPS will provide turkey, gravy, dressing, and smashed potatoes. November 2005:

Reno regular meeting (November 3rd). Annual Meeting to vote on new officers and Board Members. Terry Miller, Plumas National Forest, will speak on Management of Rare and Endangered Plant Species on the Plumas National Forest.
Henderson regular meeting (November 7th). Annual Meeting to vote on new officers and Board Members. Botanist Joey Betzler will give a presentation on Cactus and Succulents of the Desert Southwest: Mojave Desert, Northern Baja and Anza Borrego.
October 2005:

Henderson regular meeting (Monday, October 3rd). Author Brian Beffort will tell us about his new book, Afoot and Afield in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada, a comprehensive guide to more than 100 hikes within a 3 hour drive of Las Vegas.
Reno regular meeting (October 6th). Rose Strickland and Dennis Gighlieri will speak on Eastern Nevada and Western Utah Water Wars.
Adopt-a-Wash Weed Pull (Clark Co., Saturday, October 8th). See Field Trips page for details.
September 2005:

Reno regular meeting (September 1st). Gary Monroe will speak about and show slides of Wild Flowers of the Spring Mountains, Clark County, Nevada.
Henderson regular meeting (Tuesday, September 6th). Please note that the September meeting will be held on Tuesday due to the Labor Day holiday. Elizabeth Hewitt of the Community College of Southern Nevada's Ornamental Horticulture Department will present The Role of Native Plant Propagation in Restoration Efforts at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.
August 2005:

Henderson regular meeting (August 1st). Susan Potts will present Nevada Wilderness - Pictures, Places and People.
July 2005:

Henderson regular meeting (Tuesday July 5th). The July meeting will be held on Tuesday the 5th of July to avoid the Fourth of July weekend. Lesley DeFalco will present Seed Establishment in Disturbed Mojave Desert habitats: How Much Do Wind Dispersal and Granivores Matter in Restoration?
June 2005:

Henderson regular meeting (June 6th). Members will bring in slides and digital photos for a group presentation of this year's spring wildflowers. In addition, members are welcome to bring in plant specimens for identification and general botanical appreciation.
May 2005:

Henderson regular meeting (May 2nd). Dean Tonenna will demonstrate Native American uses of Native Plants.
Reno regular meeting (May 5th). Members' Slides.
April 2005:

Henderson regular meeting (April 4th). Kent Ostler will present a slide show of Wildflowers and Botanical Research at the Nevada Test Site .
Rare Plant Committee meeting (April 5th). Nevada Rare Plant Workshop in Las Vegas. Contact Jim Morefield (775-684-2902; jdmore [at] heritage [dot] nv [dot] gov) for more information.
Reno regular meeting (April 7th). Christy Malone will give a talk on Native plants in the landscape.
March 2005:

Reno regular meeting (March 3rd). Jim Seifert will give a presentation on How to grow plants from cuttings. NOTE DIFFERENT LOCATION FOR THIS MEETING. This meeting will be held in the classroom next to the herbarium at 920 Valley Road. This is one building south of (toward the freeway) the current meeting place.
Henderson regular meeting (March 7th). Julie Proctor will present a photographic library representing a multitude of Mojave Desert plants from the cotyledon stage through flowering. Get ready to play "Guess That Plant!"
February 2005:

Reno regular meeting (February 3rd). Dr. Alan Gubanich will be speaking on the Wintering Birds of Northern Nevada, with references to the plants that they use in 'normal' years for food sources.
Henderson regular meeting (February 7th). Elizabeth Powell will give a presentation that will wet the botanical appetite of members preparing to view the Mojave wildflower extravaganza expected in spring 2005. In addition, members will bring in favorite, perplexing, and unusual plant specimens to share with others.
January 2005:

2005 NNPS Board Meeting (January 12th). This will held at Arnold Tiehm's house with dinner at 5:30 and the meeting commencing at 6:30. If you plan to attend please notify Arnold at 329-1645 or atiehm [at] unr [dot] edu.
